Poughkeepsie Winter Parking Rules
Parking regulations in Poughkeepsie vary significantly depending on whether you are parked within the Town limits or the City limits. It is critical to know your location to avoid costly tickets and tows during the winter season.
Town of Poughkeepsie Rules
In the Town of Poughkeepsie, winter parking rules are strictly enforced by calendar dates. No vehicle may be parked on any street, road, highway, or town lot between Midnight and 8:00 AM from November 1st through April 1st. This ensures plows can safely clear the roads during sudden snow squalls.
City of Poughkeepsie Snow Emergencies
Within the City limits, parking is restricted when a Snow Emergency is officially declared by the Mayor. During a declared emergency, all motor vehicles MUST be removed from roadways indicated as "Snow Emergency Routes."
Free Parking Alternative: To help residents comply, all city parking lots are available at no charge for the duration of a Snow Emergency. You may also park for free on the streets immediately surrounding these municipal lots (such as the Duro Lot, Garden Lot, Liberty Lot, and Academy Lot).
Got a Ticket or Towed?
Vehicles parked on Snow Emergency Routes during a declared emergency are subject to ticketing, towing, and impounding at the ownerβs expense. To have a vehicle released, the impound fee and any outstanding tickets must be paid.
