NYC Alternate Side Parking Rules
Alternate side parking (ASP) is the NYC parking rule that forces the clearing of parked cars to accommodate the street cleaning schedule. The City of New York suspends alternate side parking rules during legal and religious holidays, during emergencies such as severe weather, and occasionally makes temporary suspensions to change signage.
Major Legal Holidays vs. Regular Holidays
On Major Legal Holidays, parking meters are also suspended. On all other holidays, only street cleaning rules are suspended, and parking meters remain in effect. Double parking of passenger vehicles is illegal at all times, including street cleaning days, regardless of location, purpose or duration.
Ticket Costs & Payment
A street cleaning NYC ticket costs $65 if you live in Manhattan on 96th Street or below, and $45 in all other areas including Brooklyn, The Bronx, and Queens. Parking tickets may be paid online via CityPay at nyc.gov/citypay, using the NYC P-Ticket Pay or Dispute app on your mobile device, by mail (make checks payable to "NYC Department of Finance") or in person at a DOF Business Center.
