Mount Vernon Parking & Winter Rules
During severe winter weather, the City of Mount Vernon may issue a Citywide Travel Ban. To assist residents during these winter events, the city provides overnight and temporary snow parking in all municipal lots (in non-permit spaces only), public school lots, and several designated church parking lots. Residents must remember that they are responsible for shoveling out their own vehicles within these temporary lots.
Municipal Parking Lots and Permits
The City of Mount Vernon maintains a total of 2,275 parking spaces in lots located throughout the city. The Parking Bureau issues 24-hour parking permits for these municipal lots with varying rates for residents, seniors (ages 65+), and non-residents. Permits can be purchased on a monthly, 3-month, 6-month, or yearly basis, and proof of residence must be shown when purchasing a resident permit.
Got a Ticket? Enforcement and Early Bird Discounts
Mount Vernon takes an aggressive approach to seizing and booting vehicles for nonpayment of parking ticket fines. Once a vehicle boot is installed, it cannot be removed until all debts are satisfied in full, which includes a mandatory booting fee. However, the city does offer an "Early Bird" discount; they will accept the discounted amount listed on the back of each parking ticket if it is paid in person or postmarked by the next business day. Payments, disputes, and inquiries can be handled at the Parking Bureau located at 3 East Sidney Avenue.
