Albany Parking Rules
The City of Albany manages street parking through a combination of Residential Parking Permits and Snow Emergency regulations. Generally, residential parking restrictions are suspended on federal holidays, allowing free parking for visitors.
Residential Parking Zones (2-Hour Limit)
If you do not have a residential parking permit for specific zones (such as Zone A, B, or C), you are strictly limited to parking for a maximum of 2 hours total per day within that zone. Moving your car to another space within the same zone does not restart the 2-hour clock. This is actively enforced using license plate readers.
Albany Snow Emergencies
When a Snow Emergency is declared by the Mayor, all normal parking rules and regulations are temporarily suspended. Instead, vehicles must follow the alternating schedule:
- First 24 Hours: Park on the Even side of the street.
- Second 24 Hours: Park on the Odd side of the street.
You can verify if a snow emergency is active by calling the Snow Emergency Hotline at (518) 476-SNOW (7669).
Got a Ticket or Booted?
The Albany Parking Violations Bureau (PVB) strictly enforces fines. If your vehicle accumulates $200 or more in unpaid fines and penalties, it becomes "boot eligible." To have a boot released, all outstanding tickets must be paid in full.
